A belated Happy New Year from everyone at Madhen! If January is anything to go by then we’re set for another great year ahead of us. Traditionally the first couple of months of the year calm down a little after the Christmas frenzy. Not this year. Not that we’re complaining. Both the quantity and quality of the events kick starting our year have put smiles on all our faces.
A Mix Of Old And New
It’s been a mix of old friends and new faces, with our performances evenly split between repeat bookings and working with new clients. It also saw us perform at one of our most high-profile events in our 18 year history…more of that later!
Our first event was at O2 Intercontinental Hotel for a major IT conference and new client. It’s always a challenge we relish – performing to a truly international audience, but our tried and tested repertoire meant that the dance floor was suitably busy and the client delighted. A great start to the year.
Madhen as a 7 Piece band
The following day we were packing our bags for a trip to Edinburgh, this was an unusual gig as the client had specified that they wanted a 7 piece band, with costume changes an integral part of the performance. For those that have seen Madhen you’ll know that we’re a five piece band, and that performing consistently with the same line up is very much part of our success as a band. However, we’ve no shortage of talent available via Candyamp, our ‘sister’ band. So we agreed to rise to the challenge as we added the dynamo that is Kirsty Crawford on vocals as well as the brilliant Jon Wright sharing guitar duties with Martyn. Despite Kirsty’s suitcase not making it to Edinburgh Helen, Matthew and Kirsty managed to stretch the limited costume supplies and the client was none the wiser! It’s dealing with these kind of challenges under pressure that help reinforce Madhen’s reputation for professionalism both on and off stage.
There’s more news to follow in part 2 of our start to 2018.
